On Sunday, June 21st, the sun will rise over Sendai around 4:00am., and will continue to shine until 7:00pm. In fact, it will be the longest “day” of the year! Known as the summer solstice (日本語にすると「夏至」), it is the day when the northern hemisphere is closest to the sun. In many northern countries — like my home, Alaska — this is a big day for parties and barbeques as we celebrate the midnight sun!
